If you're like me, you have a dream of visiting the Hawai'i of long ago? You know, finding that intimate hotel on the Big Island of Hawai'i, where you can still experience the Aloha that the big resort hotels of today lack. Well, just a short walk from downtown Hilo is the Dolphin Bay Hotel. This labor of love by owner John Alexander offers comfortable accommodations at a reasonable price. And they really do cater to people who want to see the real Hawai'i. Four types of units are offered, each with a fully equipped kitchen, a bath/shower, cable color TV and table fans. Dolphin Bay is also convenient to Hilo, a great town to walk around with interesting architecture. A trip to Hilo is not complete without a visit to the Lyman House Museum, which features the natural history of the Big Island. I guess there's a reason why Dolphin Bay has been rate the nicest small hotel in the Hilo area.
